Real Poker

Reality television is here to stay, most people will agree. When reality television first burst onto the scene in the late 1990’s, many thought it would just be a passing fad, but others saw the opportunity it was to save money by avoiding needing to pay professional rates for actors in the unions who work in the television industry. Once just a novelty that a couple shows on tv were, now reality is a genre on its own, with shows on every channel that feature large families, celebrities, competitions, and matchmaking contests.

Now poker, which has long been featured on channels such as ESPN, will have its own dedicated reality television show, and will be released in late summer. What is most interesting to note, perhaps is that poker, both online poker and land poker, has continued to dominate the airwaves as well as searches in Google, and television companies have taken note and followed suit.

The new series will follow a handful of young handsome poker playing guys as they each compete for $2,000,000. It will be on the G4 Network, which gears their programming to the average young male between the ages of 18-25. Young men in this age range are either single and adventurous, or they are already married and or having children. Either way, any male in this age group can most certainly either relate or live vicariously through the guys on the tv show.

Even though the current American law that in effect bans online poker in the US was passed almost 4 years ago, people have not denied their love for poker. The law, commonly known as the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, is hopefully on its way out in the next couple of years.
