Frank Spits it Out House representative and online poker advocate Barney Frank has finally released his online gambling legislation that would overturn the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. He and other opponents have disagreed with the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act since its inception in 2006 and cite the fact that the law leaves American consumers unprotected and also is vague in its meaning and lacks regulation and real life practicality. Frank has been steadily working on drafting and passing a law that would counteract the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, and now has released his own legislation that would allow the licensing of offshore online poker casinos, provided that all of them agree to very strict and specific criteria. On top of agreeing to be subject to US jurisdiction, the online casinos that would be allowed to participate would be put through a series of qualifications. Furthermore, especially with the country is such dire financial straits, the regulation of the online poker and gambling industry would certainly bring in some much needed revenues to put into more government and social programs. The new act, the Internet Gambling Regulation Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act of 2009 strives to be the exact opposite of its predecessor in that it will eradicate any uncertainty over what the law states, and whose charge it is to regulate and enforce it. Furthermore, it seeks to fill all the holes that the Unlawful internet Gambling Enforcement Act has, including provisions for consumer protection, underage gamblers and problem gamblers as well. The opposition has largely said that this is not an issue about online poker casino gambling at all, but rather has more to do about preserving the freedoms and rights that Americans have come to expect and stand for across the world.
