La Blond Kills It is not every day that a newcomer makes some huge new headlines, but when the rare occasion arises when that does actually occur, you can be sure that everybody every where certainly takes notice. The latest new kid on the block to do this is definitely Canadian Benjamin LaBlond, who just recently was able to run over some of the poker world’s greatest players. Everybody who knows anything about poker has heard of Phil Hellmuth, Jeff Madsen and Brad Booth, all of whom have been able to win millions of dollars in prize money from all the poker tournaments they have won over the years. In addition to actually playing and being experts in the game, players at this level often even have their own tutorial videos and books that they make even more money off of. So how did this newcomer possibly blast onto the scene and get to the top so quickly? It looks like Benjamin LaBlond was able to take a crash course in poker just by playing online voraciously. The three greats that he was able to beat all have more than one World Series of Poker bracelet to their name, and he does admit that it is a totally different experience to play against a real person instead of playing on the computer. Not only that, but it’s different to play face to face with your poker heroes, instead of playing just the regular guy in the same chatroom. Winning the $100,000 first prize was probably a huge victory for La Blond, who was just thrilled to be there in the first place. What is funny to note is that the second place prize, which went to Madsen, was still a cool $50,000, was probably nothing compared to what he is usually used to getting.
