Another CasualtyThe Recession has finally affected even the most resilient of industries and populations, and now all markets are feeling the pinch this year as everybody has tightened their pocket strings and cut their budgets in half. Of course the first things to be eliminated are expenditures on extras such as online poker gaming as well as fun or social experiences. All companies are cutting back on nonessentials, such as annual picnics and even conferences. Now the latest casualty of the recession has been the famed Summer iGaming Networking and Learning Conference, which has been a highly anticipated annual event that has brought leaders of the online gambling and poker world together every year. This year’s event was slated to be held in Malta and was to last for a few days. Most online casinos would send their top representatives and executives to meet and mingle at this conference, and this year that is one more expense that many companies could simply not justify. While some brands continue to go strong, most of the online poker and gambling sites have reported significant losses in the first part of the year, since most people have cut out online games and gambling. With all of that money not coming in, enrollment for the event simply plummeted, and there were not enough people signed up in order to still have a successful event.
Unfortunately, fun events like these often serve to keep company
and worker morale up, and although companies are doing
everything they can to avoid lay offs, the lack of activities
can certainly backfire and spread a negative mood within a
company.
