Leadership Skills The Poker Players Alliance has several things working in their favor. From having some of the most educated people in their corner, to having a very calm and professional approach to their cause, the organization is slowly making headway in trying to make their voice heard. One thing that is probably very helpful with steering the organization in that direction is the wise guidance of the Chairman Alfonse D’Amato. He actually served in the US senate for over 10 years as a Republican representative, and so obviously he had some time to see how things are actually done behind closed doors. It is that experience that probably gives him the big picture view of how he must conduct himself and how best to steer the PPA in order to offend the least people and benefit the most. One of the most recent ways that that is visible is that he has waited until now to propose a solution for the country. Now that Obama is in office and the financial situation for the country, and for the entire world has in fact gotten worse, he has written a formal letter to the President outlining a possible solution to various problems. He has suggested that the county gain some dramatic financial inflow from the legalization, regulation and taxation of online poker, which currently is going on anyway, and just not benefitting the country in the least. Also, it helps that he has seen that Obama is himself a poker fan, and has also vowed to always hear all sides of any argument with an open mind. Since he has already proclaimed his moderateness, the stage has been opened for the PPA to further their cause in a timely manner. Furthermore, the fact that D’Amato is by definition, a conservative supporter of poker, he is able to appeal to those most threatened by the idea in the first place, by bringing up the fact that so many Americans have been abandoned by their country’s avoidance of the issue, and that there are millions of dollars left untapped by that as well. That is music to anybody’s ears. Back to March 2009 Archive. |
