iMEGA Fights Back

The state of Minnesota is making headlines once again as they have been fighting tooth and nail to uphold the block on online poker and gambling sites. iMEGA, the Media Entertainment and Gaming Association is fighting back by raising awareness with the various internet service providers that in fact, nobody has to actually go along with with the order from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, since that is not technically their jurisdiction. Technically the Department of Public Safety just issued a request, not a law or a ban, to block a list of 200 online poker casino websites. Furthermore, the Media Entertainment and Gaming Association does not believe that the DPS even has the ability to regulate the behavior of privately owned companies such as those internet service providers.

Furthermore, iMEGA is also suing the DPS on grounds that they are misusing a law from 40 years ago, and that they should not be able to block American citizens from accessing websites which originate outside of the country in the first place. Many who are conflicted as far as how they feel personally and morally about online poker gambling still have come together to support the fact that the government should not be able to tell IPS what they can and cannot do, as well as the fact that the government cannot and should not be in direct violation of the 1st Amendment, which allows people free speech rights. Under that amendment, citizens of the United States are able to access and create whatever they want, and Minnesota’s actions set a dangerous precedent which could deteriorate the foundations of that belief.
