UIGEA Hurting Lottery

Next month will be a huge month for all online poker casino lovers everywhere, because it means that the United States might finally be a step closer to changing the current internet casino law. Right now, and since 2006, the United States has been slapped with the infamous and vague Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. The criticism of this law has been varied and plentiful, from people saying that the law is unfounded, to saying that it is too vague to enforce, to saying that it is simply ineffective.

Well while all of those things are true, it looks like iMEGA will be stepping up to challenge Goliath in court. We all know that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act hurts business for illegal gambling by making credit card companies decide to block processing on all internet poker websites and gambling casino sites. The flawed law fails to dictate what defines an illegal website, so in order to be in foolproof compliance of the law, credit card companies are trying to be as broad as possible in their own definition in order to not get into trouble.

However, iMEGA will bring to the attention of the court in the next month, it looks like credit card companies are actually blocking financial transaction on poker websites and state lottery gambling sites, which is actually a legal form of gambling in the United States! Not only is a flawed law blurring the lines of its own jurisdiction, it also has hurt sound and legal industries, and has caused a financial loss for state budgets everywhere. Hopefully this will be one more nail in the coffin for the UIGEA.
