Online Poker Crackdown There has been a huge crackdown taking place in the United States by the government on any online poker casino gambling activity. While many critics of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act maintain that the law is vague and invalid, it clearly remains law, and the Department of Justice is seeking to prosecute those who it deems in violation of it. The first step it this retaliation has been to freeze over $30 billion in money in American banks that the Department of Justice suspects is from the online poker industry. It can be certainly said that the Poker Players Alliance is working around the clock to contest this latest overstep of boundaries, and their best lawyers are meeting to discuss the best possible plan of attack. This is the latest disappointment in the fight for the right to play online poker, after several months of optimism for online poker to become legalized. Back to June 2009 Archive. |
