Finally Some Good News

After a string of bad luck for the ill fated WPT Online poker site, the company has found a way to get around all the trouble and red tape. A new age has emerged in response to the UIGEA and the US’s lack of acceptance for online poker sites. Instead companies like WPT have launched subscription based sites that have members pay a monthly fee in order to gain access to the service, and then through play, instead of winning real money, the system is based on points, which then the players can redeem for various prizes, such as seats in various huge tournaments.

Club WPT is the World Poker Tour’s version of this very site, and it was launched almost a year ago, and since then they have seen a steady rise to the top of the food chain. It is also really great that Americans have an outlet with which to entertain themselves, and as Americans we are supposed to enjoy the right to online poker. Up until this point in time, the Club WPT has now given away over 2 million dollars in prize money, based on the exchange of prize equivalencies. Furthermore, the money comes from a combination on player fees and tournaments.

It has been interesting to note that the subscription poker site model is actually not been very successful for other brands in the recent past. However, perhaps due to the WPT’s already strong branding image, or maybe because they are such a large company in the US where this type of service is needed, they have been the ones to outlast all the competition.

Either way, the idea is a stroke of genius and definitely fills a crucial gap in the American poker market. Also, the success of the Club WPT  must of course be one of the most exciting pieces of news for the WPT, which has been having somewhat of a rough time in the recent years.
