Poker Tops the List

Well it’s another new year and it looks like it’s time to look back at 2008 and make some observations. It was certainly a year of interesting things going on, from tumultuous financial roller coaster, to an historic election, to thrilling impressions by some Saturday Night Live veterans of certain Alaskan lawmakers.

All of the most exciting things that happen throughout the year can all be reviewed simply by seeing the search levels for certain words and key phrases online. While certainly online searches for Sarah Palin and Barack Obama (interesting how John McCain was somehow overlooked) ruled the world wide web, we are proud to report that the most search term for 2008 was once again, Poker!

At a time when the PPA is pressuring law makers to consider legalizing and regulating online poker, and results from independent university studies support that, as do several other media reports, the fact that poker is so high on the list, higher than carbon footprint, or global warming, or same sex marriage, merely signals what is at the forefront of people’s minds.

Poker and online poker is actually a huge issue for people and according to the frequency with which people have been searching for it, it is actually very indicative of where people’s minds are, even in these difficult times.

This is not the first year that poker has topped the list, but it is surprising that it would this eyar, even with so much else going on. It should be taken as a sign for legislators to see that, yes, Americans do play poker, and yes, they deserve to be protected and treated fairly if they choose to participate in online poker. They deserve better.
