Mess with Texas Already

Texas is an enigma, if not for the fact that so many famous professional poker players come from there, we would never know that Texas actually has outlawed all gambling activity. The state does not participate in any form of gambling, including house poker games, which means that the frequency with which cops regulate and storm house parties is really high.

Currently there is a bill that is up in Texas which revises the law on poker in the state.

The fact that there even is an underground poker scene anywhere  in the US, with so much exposure that the game has, and with all the air time on mainstream networks like ESPN that poker receives, you would think that one of the biggest states in the country would allow its citizens to participate in such a rampant pastime.

It’s almost like saying California suddenly outlawed people to eat hamburgers, but people were still being busted for secretly having barbeques.

The bill's supporters say that Texas is missing out on a huge financial opportunity and that legalized games would bring more safety to poker players in the state.

In a similar situation to the online poker scene, Texas’ refusal to recognize that poker exists means that current poker games are severely deregulated, meaning that people never know what they might be getting into when they go to a poker game. Not only are they not safe, but they know they don’t have anybody to turn to for help since they are technically breaking the law by playing a card game.

The PPA, as you can imagine, is rallying hard to raise support and awareness for the cause.
