Conflict Sells in SC

Bob Chimento and his four friends decided to take on lawmakers in South Carolina. The law that they decided to take on was over 200 years old, which by the country’s standards, is a very very long time. But the reason this case is making headlines is exactly that. Only controversies and conflicts sell papers these days. So how many online poker and house poker games have been raided with innocent Americans getting into trouble for no reason?

It is pretty interesting that this poker debate has been going on for a good five years, since online poker first bursted onto the scene, and certainly has heated up significantly since 2006, when the UIGEA was first passed. So how is it that in less than one month of 2009, there have been a handful of steady court decisions across the country that supported the fact that poker is in fact a game of skill?

It must be because finally people are getting fed up, and tired of just following the rules even though they make zero sense. It must be because our current President, who is a poker fan himself, has suddenly made it ok to have a different opinion and have hope that it will be heard. Perhaps it is because the worldwide economy and business infrastructure is appalled that Kentucky would have the gall to even try to seize foreign domain names in the first place. There are countless hypothetical reasons for the sudden breaking of the dam.

Whatever it is, it looks like there is finally hope for American poker players, who will finally be able to play some online poker if they so choose.

All it takes is for somebody to speak up in the face of adversity.
