Poker Takes Skill In perhaps the biggest debate of the last five years, several states of the country have officially decided this month that poker is, in fact, a game of skill. While everybody who plays poker can tell you that they had to work hard and do homework in order to get as good as they are, the courts for some reason have resisted defining poker as a game of skill, versus merely a game of chance. The main reason that the definition is important is that it clearly decides how the government should regulate the pastime in the first place. Not only are land games at stake, but the future of online poker within the US is also up in the air. As long as poker is considered a game of chance, it will be treated as such, and granted no liberties. Furthermore, it will be outlawed, just like every other online gambling casino game. Lately there has been a string of decisions in several states that, the Poker Players Alliance is proud to say, had finally declared that poker takes skill! It has exonerated some pretty regular people that have been unjustly shackled, arrested and charged with illegal activity for having some buddies over to play poker. Furthermore, the decision has also paved the way for future laws and decision making in regards to poker and online poker. It is so important that these states make these rulings, in order to correctly represent and protect the rights of American poker players everywhere.
