KGC Fires Back

Any news story that causes such a commotion and sensation that people are still talking about it, or responding to it, weeks or months later can be measured as a highly successful one. Several weeks ago, 60 Minutes ran an investigative report on online poker and casinos, and took an in depth look at the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, which was involved in some notorious cheating scandals over the past couple of years.

The Kahnawake Gaming Commission owns Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker, both of which were involved in some pretty huge breaches of security and integrity for online poker casinos. Many players lost millions of dollars, and the integrity of the brand and parent company, as well as the software they use, has been under fire.

However, now KGC has just released a statement in response to the negative press they have been getting from the 60 Minutes report. They are alleging that the report actually omitted several key details of the situation, and included a handful of inaccurate and misleading statements.

Among these slip ups is that the report stated that online poker casino gambling is illegal in the States, when in fact, it is the payment transfer that is illegal, not the playing. Furthermore, they failed to mention that the actual cheating occurred when the casinos were under different ownership, and there have been millions of dollars paid in reparations to all those affected, as well as the fact that the company has taken extensive precautions to prevent this from happening again, and is taking an active role in the prosecution of the cheating party.

All of these things that the news report “overlooked” merely do a disservice to the American public who look to these programs as education. Now they have a skewed perspective on what is really going on, and the KGC has to do even more damage control over something which isn’t even their fault.
