Kentucky
is Stubborn
Not one to be outdone or defeated so easily, Kentucky has
quickly appealed the decision that overruled the state’s
decision to sieze almost 150 online domain names. They had tried
to have jurisdiction over all of these foreign online poker
casinos, and outlaw the operation of them within the state. The
debate is whether or not they are allowed to do so in the first
place, on what grounds, and whether or not poker is actually a
game of skill.
Since the appeal is considered an automatic right, not too many
people were shocked by this new development, especially since
the party who is responsible for all of the this legal action is
a staunch supporter of the anti-poker movement. Governor Steve
Beshar has been a huge opponent against all online gambling ever
since the beginning of his political career. Furthermore, it is
interesting to note that the state of Kentucky also has its own
interests in mind, since they opine that the presence of online
poker and slots casinos will logically create too much
competition for their own state-run gambling programs.
Now if the US just had the foresite to legalize and regulate and
tax online poker and gambling, they would see that the power is
theirs for the taking. With that action would come safety for
the country’s residents, as well as added revenue from an
activity that is going on anyway. The citizens deserve a clear
law and it is shocking that this country is still maintaining a
healthy heap of sand over its buried head.
