Jason Alexander Infiltrates Poker Jason Alexander is the latest celeb to be making headlines in the poker world. He is famous of course for his role in the long running show Seinfeld, and has been a staple in Gary Marshall Movies since the early 90s. Now it looks like his image will be cooler and much edgier, now that Poker Stars has officially chosen him to be the International Celebrity Ambassador for the company. While he has certainly participated in poker events and poker shows before, this is the first time that an entire poker franchise has bestowed such an honor. He graduated from Boston University, and has had a steady acting career for over twenty years, and it looks like he’s looking to branch out. As the celeb ambassador, Alexander will be charged with the very difficult responsibility of traveling all over the world to participate in poker tournaments, and also must participate in the famous World Series of Poker 2009, the WSOP. While many think that this tactic is very effective, which it is, and exciting, which it is, it is just another area in which celebrity actors are infiltrating other industries and taking money and jobs from the people that used to dominate. The same thing happened in the fashion world, now that all cover girls are no longer supermodels but rather actresses who are promoting their latest project. The same thing happened in voice over acting, in which famous recognizable voices are now hired in order to attract people to the box office, taking jobs away from an already competitive voice over world. Now, famous poker legends are not enough to draw people in, so the tactic is being used to brand online poker sites. Back to January 2009 Archive. |
