Obama for Change and Poker Poker fans everywhere are actively hoping that this new president will take into account the dire straights of online poker players everywhere. Since Obama has established a tone of open communication and equal representation, everybody is hoping that their issue will reach the right people and be voiced. Especially since Obama himself is an avid poker player, everybody is hoping that he will be sensitive and open to all the injustices that American poker players are facing. The battle has been raging on with both sides at full attention. One side is lumping poker with all the rest of the kinds of gambling, saying that it is a game of chance and as such encourages addictive behavior. The other camp says that there is no way that poker players only use chance to win millions of dollars. Even studies on university campuses across the country in the past couple of years have been agreeing that there is a merit to poker and that it is a very intellectual pastime. Because of the skill it takes for people to win money, and know the odds, American poker players everywhere are rallying for more support to exclude online poker from the “gambling” definition, which would, by definition, exempt it from any legislation outlawing or limiting online gambling. Also since Obama has said that this is a new age, people are hoping that his presidency will be remembered for being responsible and open, as opposed to burying ones head in the sand and ignoring the reality of the situation with online poker. The Poker Players Alliance is encouraging all poker players to join the cause. Back to February 2009 Archive. |
