Kentucky at it Again Kentucky is making headlines once again, as the battle rages on over the seizure of online domain names. A couple months ago, Kentucky judge Wingate ruled that they would seize the online domain names of those online poker casinos that were still operating within Kentucky by a certain deadline. While the US has not declared online casinos illegal, they have only gone so far as to say that the financial transaction is illegal. Still several online poker and casino brands continue to operate within the US, making each and every individual state decide how they will handle the issue. Kentucky’s attack has been full force, and has outright said that the state has outlawed all online casino activity. While the Supreme Court decided that their action had been outside of the state’s jurisdiction, Kentucky has decided to appeal the decision and is not applying to be able to submit a longer appeal than is usually allowed. Not only are they asking for an extension of the brief length, but they are also pleading for an extension in the deadline. What is most interesting perhaps is that if this whole decision is so crucial and important wouldn’t it make sense for the state to have been working on this the whole time and to show up on time and fully prepared? The whole reason they said that domain names would be seized is that the state defines them as a vehicle for gambling and illegal activity. But this was a huge deal in the international setting since it is not every day that one little state within a country is granted the power to prosecute and destroy an international business entity.
