To Russia!

While Mexico puts a stop to poker by shutting down the Latin American Poker Tour, Poker Stars will be shipping off to Russia to try out the climate there. The Russian Poker Tour promises to be one of the most exciting new events in the social and gambling calendar, as the prestige and exclusivity of the event is being set up to be some of the highest in existence. It’s astounding how different attitudes can be with just a change in the scenery, as it looks like Russia will be much more welcoming for poker and poker culture than Mexico has turned out to be.

Even before the Russian Poker Tour is officially launched, poker sites all over have been seeing a strong presence of Russian players who have all but dominated the scene all over the world. From Ivan Demidov, who came in 2nd in the WSOP (World Series of Poker) Main Event a few months ago, to Alex Kravchenko, who is one of the official players for PokerStars, Russia has been infiltrating the top ranks of poker players and tournaments everywhere.

The Russian Poker Tour is looking to be a huge hit, and currently Poker Stars is offering prizes for qualifiers that include the usual buy-in, rooms, and expenses. The packages start at a lofty $8000 and are already in high demand.

This is the current level of anticipation already, even though the final details have yet to be announced, like the date. However, we do know that St. Petersburg and Moscow will be some of the locations that will be on the list. Russia is excited for poker and so are we!
