Help from Media To continue the theme of the country trying to muddle through the online poker debate, several media shows and newspapers have been putting the spotlight on the need for some kind of solution for the American online gambling situation. From the recent 60 Minutes special to several articles across the country in major publications, everybody is trying to get to the bottom of the online gambling debate. Practically every study done, even from neutral and objective universities, seems to be coming out with the same results. All recommend the legalization and regulation of the online poker and gambling industry, for several reasons, from player safety and advocacy, to tax revenue, to global responsibility for free international trade. All of these are certainly making Congressman Barney Frank, the proponent of the legalization of online gambling, a very happy man, because it all is good press and serving to turn public opinion against the idea of supporting the current UIGEA. 60 Minutes recently had a show based on the notorious cheating scandals at Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet, which worried some poker supporters that the viewers who were not familiar with the whole story might surmise that it is an accurate example of what is happening in the entire online gambling industry at large. However, in several polls and Opinion editorial sections, people across the country are agreeing that it has done just the opposite, and has come at a crucial time when it looks the tide will be turning very soon.
