Family Reunion for Brunsons

This year’s world famous Asian Poker Tour will signify quite a wonderful coming together for one of the top players in the world of poker. Doyle Brunson, now almost 80 years old, will be joining his son Todd at the high stakes tables for a chance to compete for the top prize at the Galaxy StarWorld Hotel and Casino.

Todd, who is turning 40 next year, actually did not learn from his father, who shielded his son from his own profession for the longest time. When Doyle played poker, it was at a time when it was not really looked at in a positive light, and he has confessed to being beat up and held at gun point several times. Back then, the nature of the game was more unregulated and dangerous, as many cash games were being run by outlaws and mob leaders. Naturally, the last thing he wanted was for his own son to go through everything he had to endure.

However, Todd ended up learning to play while he was at college, where he was majoring in law. Before he reached his senior year, Todd decided finally to leave school and pursue poker full time, which was most likely a source of tension for the family. However, time has been good to the Brunsons, since the two men have both won World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets. Even the lesser known Brunson daughter, Pamela actually outlasted the boys in her own WSOP try in 2005.

Doyle Brunson has since become one of the top players in the world of poker, and has released several best-selling books on theory and practice. Additionally, the unstoppable Brunsons have recently parlayed their success into the world of online poker, through the highly popular Doyle’s Room.

This year’s tournament will have Doyle Brunson at a book signing during his off time. Let’s see what the Brunson family has got in store for the world this year, shall we?
