Republicans on Poker: Yes No Maybe
Conflicting opinions seem to be
deconstructing the Republican party from the inside out these
days, as the world and the entire nation are getting ready to
select the new President this year. A major issue up for debate
is the Republican Party’s stance on online poker and internet
gambling. As the world moves on into the 21st
century, choices in legislation and also how the various parties
handle new changes not only set the stage for future decision
making, but also are having an effect on current loyalty from
people who are watching closely.
The PPA and poker players everywhere
rejoiced and quickly fell short as the Republican Platform
Committee floundered on its stance regarding online gambling. At
first they omitted language that would deem it unlawful, only to
put it right back in a few hours later. The outcome of that
decision will have a huge bearing on a large part of the poker
and online casino community, who are counting on it on which to
base their votes in November.
Furthermore, more and more Republicans
have become disillusioned with their party’s resistance to
change, and ease with which they have crumbled to lobbyists
versus listening to their consitutents. After being the party
that traditionally has stood for individual responsibilities and
freedoms, they seem to have switched sides in favor of a more
involved, socialistic response to online poker and gaming. This
perhaps is the most discouraging aspect of the whole situation
for formally diehard Republicans.
After years of defending their party,
more and more responsible, civil serving adults have seen that
the Republican party seems to care more about the funding than
about really listening to what the people want to be represented
in government. The final decision will either be the redeeming
factor, or the nail in the coffin that drives people to vote
Democrat this year. From their resistance to change to
accommodate a new modern technology, to their superior weight on
lobbyists versus the citizens, the Republicans will have to make
careful decisions this year, if they don’t want to lose all of
their votes.
