2008 a Good Year for 888

888 Casino, like most other online poker and casino companies, have been struggling to make up for the lost revenue from the American market after they were kicked out by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA). The act has been very controversial all over the world, and has been notorious for its vague guidelines and contradictory policy that violates several trade embargos through the World Trade Organization.

However, this year 888 decided to add a few additional features, in an attempt to draw back more foottraffic, and in effect, more revenue, from a smaller, less populated market. The list of new features includes new sports betting options, as well as the 888ladies bingo site, and backgammon. The new sports betting options has definitely come in handy this year, with a huge opportunity for money from the Olympics and the football championships.

Furthermore, 888 Casino is currently hosting a huge online party which was kicked off on 8/8, to commemorate the Olympics. Poker tables had very high payouts and low buy-ins, and several games offered unheard of bonuses and cash prizes. Certainly the jump in recent activity can be attributed to a killer combination of all of those components.

For all of these reasons, 888’s second quarter report has been a very positive one, in which the company reports an impressive 33% increase in sales since the previous report. All of this positive news still stands even with a lack of change on the poker front, and with the new bingo and sports options carrying the whole company.

The lesson here: If life or the UIGEA gives you lemons… Offer bingo and sports betting.
