Poker Den
2008
The fourth annual Poker Den will be
happening this year in London, and it promises to be one of the
biggest, most exciting, and perhaps the longest one yet!
Attracting several of the most famous name players in the
industry, from Phil Hellmuth and his archnemesis Doyle Brunson
to celebrities like Jennifer Tilly, this is one tournament that
is not for the faint of heart. In the past, it has lasted over
thirty hours, during which players go on a roller coaster ride,
being up, being down, and finally winning or losing.
The game requires a minimum $10,000
buy-in, which is another reason that this tournament in
particular only attracts the elite of poker, and many of these
players are familiar faces from the World Series of Poker. In
years past, the players have exchanged much trash talk and witty
banter, since it is definitely a thing to brag about to even be
in the marathon tournament to begin with. Furthermore, many of
the best players are also cocky, and like to boast that they
will not only be the last ones at the table, but be able to go
through the whole tournament without a break.
On top of the intense buy-in, the
blinds start at a cool $25/$50, and quickly progress through the
day and night. With so much money at stake, it is easy to see
how the players could be so engrossed as to have so much time
pass while they sit at the poker table. However, what about the
announcer? This year, the task falls on the lucky Jesse May, who
will have to work up enough interest and adrenaline and perhaps
caffeine to keep up with the 36 hours of nonstop action.
Poker Den is produced by Party Poker
and Matchroom Gaming.
