Australian Update

The online poker and casino debate is still raging on across the world, especially since there are so many people on either side of the issue. Although several research universities have conducted studies that all point to the benefits of legalizing and regulating the online betting and casino industry, many conservative citizens of the world (and their governments) refuse to accept the reality of the situation. Countries such as the US and several others in Asia are opting to simply ignore the facts, and implement a prohibitive regime, which ultimately leaves the people unprotected as consumers, and also strips people of their autonomy as adults.

In Australia, the situation is no different, as they are searching for the best way to handle the online poker casino industry. While it is definitely important to protect the best interests of the citizens, it is also just as important to make sure that there are no people left out or neglected by the law.

The internationally acclaimed online casino Betfair is one organization that is championing the cause of online gambling sites in Australia. Not only is the regulation of the industry beneficial to consumers, but it is also important for all the different companies to be on the same page, to have the protection that other businesses are afforded, and to also have the recourses to fight fraud, cheating, and other unfortunate behavior.

Online poker specifically is currently outlawed in Australia, but Betfair is fighting to change that by saying that citizens are not protected when they visit off shore poker sites. Since those are the only ones available to them, and the current law is impossible to enforce, Betfair is saying that it is important to allow and monitor the activity on the casino websites.
